Singing Lessons
Welcome to Vocalogy.
We are a private singing studio in Singapore specializing in cross-over singing. Male and female singers change styles and genres easily and are able to produce commercial sounds like classical, mix and belt with ease. A typical lesson might begin with classical exercises and songs, then move into pop songs and end with belting. Flexibility is our key to keep students working professionally if they choose and perform at any occasion in any style.
Our main teaching streams are Pop Music Vocals, Classical Singing and Musical Theatre. All teaching is supported by examinations from the Associated Board Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), London College of Music University of West London (LCM) and London Academy of Music and the Dramatic Arts (LAMDA).
Pop Music Vocals students work on individual style and developing a distinct musical personality through exercises and songs. Mic technique and technological issues e.g. mixing, recording, is introduced at a later stage (or earlier, depending on the song a student brings in).
The focus in musical theatre is the singing actor. Students must learn to integrate singing with physicality and movement to use their bodies to tell a story as a character from the musical. In private classes, we help a student build a ‘book’ of songs from musicals of different periods that students can audition with.
Classical Singing emphasizes the production of resonant tone with understanding of text, music and style in its historical context.
Students are encouraged to move between streams to broaden their musical and experiential horizons.
Our teaching philosophy is to treat singing students like vocal athletes. Singing requires greater muscular coordination than speech. Singing exercises work on the phonatory and the respiratory system to support high-level muscular performance. We work firstly to coordinate register transition then build flexibility and strength through singing exercises and songs. Students will experience progress if they practice the week’s suggested regimen. Students are encouraged to bring their own recorders to record classes and to practice with the recording at home.
Classes come in blocks of 30 mins, 45 mins and an hour. 30-minute classes are recommended for children under 10 years or students or teenagers and adults who would like to try our teaching methodology. Students should be able to cover singing technique and sing between 1-3 songs in a 45-minute session. Hour-long classes are recommended if the student is taking an exam. We handle the aural, sightsinging and musicianship aspects of examinations.
We accept students of all ages. Students aspiring towards/ with a professional career will benefit greatly from our intense academic year of examinations and performances.
Classes are currently conducted at our home studio . We conduct classes solely on a one-to-one basis to give you our undivided attention and care. All classes are by appointment only
Thank you once again for your time and we look forward to seeing you in class.
